Leaf miners (Agromyzidae) are small, inconspicuous flies whose larvae can cause significant damage. They lay their eggs in the leaves of various plants, including vegetables (e.g., tomatoes, cucumbers, beans), herbs, and ornamental plants. The hatching larvae feed through the leaf tissue, leaving characteristic feeding marks – so-called mines .

The infestation severely impairs photosynthesis, leading to weakened plants, lower yields, and stunted growth . Leaf miners can multiply rapidly, especially in greenhouses.
